While our family has been fortunate through quarantine and has food on the table and a roof over our heads, we recognize that many people may not be as fortunate. We aim to provide up to $600 per month to impacted families in our neighboring communities for 6 months, until they can get back on their feet. By providing this relief when it is desperately needed, we will draw our communities together and build a sense of unity that will last far longer than this crisis. While on the field it may greatly matter which team we play for, it is in times like these to remember that we are all on the same field. I was a cornerback and wide receiver on the varsity football team and am a captain of the lacrosse team. Having my senior year cut short and lacrosse season cancelled came as a shock but what I soon realized was that there are more important things. Now I am finished with plebe summer at the Naval Academy, before I left I was helping jump start One Team but now I cheer from the sidelines. Whether a family member is in the hospital or they have lost their job, many have been put in very tough situations. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. In our town of Darien, instead of a regular Emergency Medical Service (EMS) we have a program run by High Schoolers. It is a teen run ambulance program that operates with the same professionalism and skill as one run by adults. I am so grateful to be part of this community. We are one big family. We go through an intensive process of cleaning ambulances, training, and tests before being allowed to go into the “field". The experiences that come with being a first responder allows you to see outside of the bubble that we grow up in. Through my experiences I’ve learned that looking beyond my life, stepping into someone else’s shoes, is one of the most important things to be able to have. With this pandemic ravaging our lives we need to be able to do just this. I can see that while my family eats three meals every day, so many people might just get one. Or if someone gets sick and can’t afford healthcare, they suffer. One Team was designed to help families who have to deal with these problems every day during this outbreak, and for months after. I interview Darien’s football players and our opponents for the Blue Wave Booster Club Instagram. Every game is a great memory, but one game really stood out to me. Darien was playing Bridgeport. The memory was not really about the game itself, the memory was in the players. After the game both Bridgeport and Darien ate pizza in the Darien High School cafeteria, sitting shoulder to shoulder. It was amazing to see two teams come together and form one.
